In October 2024, as part of Shell's "Game Changer" project Phase 3, a team of experts from Shell's global R&D headquarters conducted an inspection of the "Demonstration Project for Continuous, Modular Hydrogen Storage and Release at 110 NM3 of Hydrogen per Hour, Based on Ambient Temperature and Pressure Organic Liquid Hydrogen Storage Technology" at Hengyuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. in Shandong.
The experts comprehensively evaluated the LOHC developed by Hynertech, assessing key chemical and physical parameters including cyclic stability, economics, safety, energy consumption, hydrogen purity, and actual hydrogen storage density in an industrial setting. It is confirmed that the technology now overcomes any technical barriers to achieving a low-cost, high-efficiency, and safe industrial-scale hydrogen storage and release process, thus meeting the fundamental conditions required for full commercialization.
